Nexus 7

Nexus 7 review
The original Nexus 7 enchanted and enthralled - and did so despite some slight compromises. The fact that it was so cheap (£159 for a 16GB version) meant it remained outstanding value for a long time. Problem is, a year is a long time in the tablet world, and competition is fierce, so the new Nexus 7 is just what the doctor ordered.

Samsung's Tizen debuts on a camera

Samsung's Tizen debuts on a camera, but no smartphone until 2014

Despite the fact that we were told that Samsung and Intel's Tizen operating system would first appear on a smartphone, it has made an early debut on a camera instead.
The Samsung NX300M is the first Tizen device to hit the market and it's already been available in Korea for over a month without anyone knowing.
Samsung has kept pretty quiet about it, having only just confirmed the 20.3-megapixel snapper is running on the software at its Tizen developer summit.
We've heard a fair bit about Tizen these past few weeks. Samsung and Intel's operating system was supposed to appear on a smartphone before 2013 is out, but it looks like that won't be happening.
The big 3.0
According to the Korea Herald, a Samsung executive has declared that the first Tizen-powered smartphone won't be released until 2014.
This means it could be even longer before we see a Tizen TV if Samsung is fully focused on the phone, which was supposed to arrive before 2013 was out.

There were also some announcements at the Tizen Summit about the next iteration of the OS, Tizen 3.0. Apparently the new version will support 64-bit processors, which could be timed nicely for the Galaxy S5 if there's any truth to the rumour of it touching down in both Android and Tizen versions.

Microsoft Surface Pro review

Microsoft Surface Pro review (UK version, Spring 2013) - Apps, performance, price
The long-awaited (for the UK) Pro version of Microsoft's Surface tablet brings a few significant changes, such as full-fat Windows 8 (rather than the slimmed-down RT version), a more powerful processor, more memory, and a full HD touchscreen with stylus.
It's on sale now for £719 for the 64GB version, £799 for the 128GB version.
Design
The Pro looks much the same as the RT, but its weightier spec has led to it being a bit of a porker at 14mm thick, especially in comparison with recent tablets like Sony's 7mm-thick Xperia Tablet Z. It's no lightweight either at a wrist-straining 916g.

It's got the same metallic stand that flips out from the back so you can use it with one of the keyboard covers (same as the RT) which magnetically clip to the bottom. You've got a choice of the 3mm slim hard-surface Touch Cover (£100) or the more luxurious Type Cover (£110) with real, pressable keys.

You don't necessarily need either of course, since the onscreen keyboards work perfectly well, but they'll let you take full advantage of the screen while you work and play.
